The selector includes a broad Western Cape locality list across Cape Town, Cape Winelands, Overberg, West Coast, Garden Route and Central Karoo. It is searchable and scrollable, with a custom-locality fallback for tiny farms, estates or informal place names not in the built-in list.

Community reports
First-handSafeCape groups similar reports automatically. Repeats from the same device do not count; three independent matching reports can publish a moderate-confidence corroborated signal.
News websites
PublicRelevant local reporting can be linked to an incident or area. SafeCape should preserve publisher/source attribution and avoid duplicating unsupported claims.
Social media & neighbourhood channels
UnverifiedPublic X/Facebook posts, neighbourhood-watch notices and public community links can contribute early signals, but should never directly drive a high-risk score without corroboration.
Live feeds need API / backend connectors
This front-end prototype now models the source system and supports linked public-source evidence. Continuous automatic ingestion from social platforms or external services should be done through permitted APIs, RSS/feeds or backend connectors that respect each platform's terms, rate limits and privacy rules. The UI deliberately labels unsupported social claims as unverified.
